I do not usually get into these moods but I am so tired of hearing the pundits, politicians, experts, and market analyst glossing over this housing problem we are faced with and pointing fingers at the other guy, that my anger can not be contained any longer. So, Here it is, right in your face! EVERYONE who has bought or sold a home in the last few years has screwed up big time in causing this mess and now we will ALL pay for it, even those inocent people who did not participate. The market got really crazy and any reasonable person has to have seen it. To begin with sellers and flippers were quick to take advantage of an expanding market caused by the goverment and lenders loose money policy. TV was full of amateur flippers making big money in spite of mistakes and lack of knowledge. The goverment did not control the bankers, lenders and set lose a beast of overpriced homes selling to unqualified buyers. The big builders took advantage of the easy money and opened their own mortgage units, making big bucks not only on the home but also on the financing. They made it very easy for an unqualified buyer to get a mortgage they could not afford in the long run, why should they care, they got their money. And the investor who stupidly bought these mortgage backed securities thinking they were going to get a higher return than the good mortgage securities would bring. The buyer was thrilled to get into a fine home, bigger and better than they ever expected, and did not pay any attention to their ability to support a large mortgage and big home. Real Estate brokers and agents were having a field day with homes that sold quickly and at high prices. We were all making big money and it seemed it would never end. Well, guess what, it has all come crashing down around our ears and we are all to blame. The goverment for making the money easily available and not controling the system. The builders for putting profit before reality. The investors for being greedy in purchasing these higher yeild securities. The Real Estate broker/agents, yes me too, for basking in these glory days we knew could not last. The buyer who was so happy with their new home they did not listen and understand what the big home was going to really cost them. We all deserve exactly what we are getting and I do not feel sorry for any of us. Now we are all looking to the goverment to bail us out, wow what a mess! The only sympathy I have is for the average home owner who has been living in his home for years and paying his mortgage the way he should. He is the biggest loser in this deal because his home has lost a tremendous amount of its value through no fault of his. Answers? I have no simple answers, I am not that smart. We have made our bed, now we must live in it. We should all stop pointing fingers at the other guy and face the situation head on. It will not be pretty!
